A few words about us

The society was founded in 1979 and achieved charitable status a few years later. It was set up by a group of medical professionals and patients and is an entirely independent body. All the Society's helpers are volunteers apart from the coordinators and treasurer who receive a small honorarium. We have a committee and a team of drivers who are paid for petrol expenses only. Funding is mainly from client donations, with some grant aid from Norfolk County Council and a few local parish councils. In 2014, we became the proud recipients of the Queen's Award, which was presented at Binham in September.

Our History
The Committee

The committee in 2025 comprises the President Dr Henry Crawley, Chair Duncan Henderson, Vice Chair Julia Peart, Coordinator Liz Traynier, Treasurer and Acting Secretary Liz Brett and Driver Representatives Mike Cartwright and Terry Temple.

The drivers are a caring team of local volunteers who give their time for free. They might take people to Kelling, Blakeney or Melton Constable surgeries and many will drive to Cromer and Norwich and further afield. Some drivers can only manage short journeys, others may do the longer runs
